NJ Transit Escalator Reversal in Secaucus Injures Three Individuals
An escalator reversed direction at the NJ Transit Secaucus Junction station in Secaucus, New Jersey, causing personal injuries for three individuals. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning, around 8:15 am, when the escalator located near the G and H tracks malfunctioned and changed direction. Although two individuals rejected medical treatment, the third was hospitalized at the Hudson Regional Hospital. Allegedly, a mechanical issue caused the escalator to reverse its direction. Since 2010, problems have arisen with the escalators that have led to injuries at the Secaucus Junction station.
When equipment used by high volumes of people in public venues malfunctions, individuals may incur a spate of injuries and even fatalities. In some cases, the equipment may not be properly maintained or a defect with the equipment may remain unresolved by the property or business owners, which may lead to injuries. Owners are liable when the premises for which they are responsible contain hazardous conditions.
