Dancing Surgeon Facing Lawsuits
An Atlanta-area certified dermatologist is facing multiple lawsuits from women claiming they were injured by the doctor who danced and sang while performing surgery on them in her office. Not only did the dermatologist videotape the performances, she posted them on her own YouTube channel for promotional purposes. Nearly 100 women have come forward to report being injured by the doctor.
According to a report on CNN, patients claim that they have suffered post-operative infections, disfigurement, and even brain damage following surgery by this dermatologist. An investigation by CNN affiliate, HLN, discovered that five medical malpractice lawsuits have been filed against the dermatologist with settlements reached in four of those cases.
Patients currently filing lawsuits say they identified themselves in some of the videos that were posted online. In one video, the doctor sings a song as she uses her scalpel to open the patient’s abdomen. In another video, the doctor is rapping her own lyrics about her bad patients that build up fat in their buttocks. The patient’s partially nude rear is exposed to the camera as the doctor uses a surgical tool as a microphone. To make this scene worse, the doctor is seen not wearing a surgical mask while she leans over the patient’s exposed skin and sings into the surgical tool.
Claims Against the Doctor
The son of one of the dermatologist’s patients claims that his mother went into cardiac arrest after the singing doctor performed a tummy tuck on her. The man became concerned when he could not reach his mother by phone, and later found out that she had gone into cardiac arrest at the doctor’s office and had been taken to the emergency room.
The man claims that when he got to the hospital, his mother was unconscious, bruised, cut up, and on oxygen. Her medical crisis and ongoing expenses forced him to drop out of college so that he could care for her ongoing needs. The expenses incurred by his mother’s condition include rehabilitation, nursing home care, medication, and around the clock home health care.
The Georgia Composite Medical Board recently investigated the claims of this man and several others that have come forward and deemed the dermatologist a threat to public safety. They suspended her license, citing her failure to provide a minimal standard of care to her patients.
Medical Malpractice Lawsuits
Patients that have been harmed by a medical professional’s negligence, carelessness, or error have the right to file a medical malpractice lawsuit. Punitive and compensatory damages may be awarded when patients prove that they suffered harm, injury, permanent disability, or disfigurement because of the doctor’s lack of professionalism and care. Seeking the counsel of a qualified and experienced medical malpractice lawyer can help ensure that the victim’s legal rights are protected and that the offending medical professional is held liable.
